What training methods do you specialize in?

I focus on balanced training. This type of training includes positive rewards for the behaviours we want to see, such as focus, patience, impulse control etc., and corrections for negative behaviours we don’t want to see, such as jumping up, barking, counter-surfing etc. Our dogs want to learn and follow the rules just like us, but as pet parents we must teach and communicate the rules and expected behaviours.

How old does my dog need to be to start training?

Every dog's training objectives are unique. We've worked with and trained dogs of all ages, and everyone is welcome. It's never too soon for you and your dog to begin training with us.

Is socialization just dogs being around dogs?

Socialization is the art of training dogs to be neutral in social and environmental situations. We want our dogs to be able to coexist with the human landscape that they live in, without being subjected to any kind of stress. It is important to encourage your dog or puppy's development into a confident and neutral pet by introducing them to new places, smells, sounds, textures, and other competing stimuli that may otherwise trigger them.

Is there a guarantee I will see improvement?

At Britt’s K9 Companions, we will do our absolute best to help every single dog we work with and improvements will be seen. However, no trainer can give an absolute guarantee as some dogs are predisposed to issues beyond our control due to genetics, health, and drastic life changes.  As trainers, we're teaching you how to train your dog. We're trying to set you up for success by providing you with the education and material you need to be successful in training maintenance after our sessions are over, but at the end of the day, your consistency plays a big part in your long term success. Your dog's success will rely on the consistency and up-keep of the training advice given by Britt’s K9 Companions.

What is the difference between structured walks and training walks?

Structured walks are a loose leash walk with your dog walking right by your leg on their best behavior. There is no pulling or distractions in a structured walk. Your dog stays by your side without needing to run off and sniff the area or pull in excitement. Walk and trains are actively training during the walk working with those distractions, basic obedience, heeling, etc.

How many sessions will my dog need?

That entirely depends on the severity of the dogs issues at hand and how much time and consistency you as the owner puts into the training. There is no quick fix when it comes to dog training. None that last anyway!
